ROUTE

The trip started by bus from Lappeenranta, Finland, via Niirala to Sortavala, Russia, where the crew of State Marine Technical University of St.Petersburg under the leadership of Vasily A. Sapozhnikov welcomed the Finnish group. The seven day trip was carried out by four sailing boats and a motor boat, all constructed of pine and oak according to a model dating back to Peter the Great's Navy in the 18th century.

The group of 42 people (and a dog), of which sixteen were from Finland and 26 from Russia, moved approximately 80 kilometres in the Sortavala Archipelago. The heavy boats were moved by rowing and by a proper wind by sailing.
